MOVIE

Today we watched the movie about Whina Cooper.

We watched it at the Te Ahu center in Kaitaia.

In the morning  we went on the bus  and drove to Kaitaia.

The movie was: Emotional, Shocking and a bit sad but some parts were funny.

And if you don’t know who Dame Whina Cooper is, well she walked from the top of New Zealand north island to the bottom. Three out of five *** out of *****

LAND MARCH

In 1975  Whina lead the land march Te Rārawa leader and woman of mana Dane Whina Cooper spent her whole life fighting for Māori land rights. As a 79-year old she led Māori land protest from the top of the north island to the bottom ( Te Haapua to Wellington ) she walked 640 km.  She became famous and they made a  statue of her and her grand child
